Children & Young People

Children and young people are an amazing part of our church family and we are privileged to be able to spend time with them and support them on their faith journey. We know the challenges that come with growing up and we want to ensure that our young people know how special and precious they are to God.

The Youth team is involved in lots of aspects of children and families work in the community and we enjoy meeting children and young people in a variety of settings.

We take collective worship in a number of primary schools which is always a fun and a great  opportunity to share special Christian events.

Messy Church: We run Messy Church at The Well Methodist Church every 4th Thursday of the month. Starting at 4pm (doors open at 3.30pm) and finishing with a meal at the end. We have a great time exploring Bible characters and brilliant stories that tell us more about Jesus. We use crafts, games and songs to celebrate together and to learn more about God's story. The whole family can join together for a very fun and informal service.

On Sunday Evening we have 2 groups for children and young people. These are informal sessions to have fun, get to know other young people and to discuss how God can make a difference in our lives.  Everyone is welcome to come along.

5pm till 6pm – yr 3 to yr6

6.30pm till 8pm – yr 7 +

Make Lunch is a project that provides a hot dinner for children and their grown ups over the  holidays when families are not receiving free school meals. We open the kitchen every holiday for a few sessions to support families. We have great food, fun games and activities and lovely people to chat to. We partner with TLG to provide Make Lunch.

Listening Post: our youth team partner with DACYM (Darlington Area Churches Youth Ministry) to provide listening sessions for young people that need space to talk through their problems. We go into schools, colleges and doctors surgeries to listen. As mental health is an increasing priority for everyone we know that by providing listening space for young people we're supporting them through difficult times in their lives, offering them the time and space they need to say things in a safe environment.

Twinkletoes Playgroup: We run a parent and toddler group at The Well each Thursday from 1pm to 2.30pm. This is a lovely group that is friendly and supportive. Snacks and activities are provided for the children and we do stories and singing each week.

3GENERATE: each year we attend our national youth conference. This is such a great weekend that connects our young people with others across the country. A chance to share views, raise issues, have fun and a chance to spend time together. This year we will be heading to Birmingham NEC!

School Lunch clubs: Pre Covid we ran lunch clubs in 2 secondary schools. As soon as we are able we will be running them again.

Youth drop in: We are keen to provide a youth drop in again after we stopped our session at  Bondgate Church. As soon as we can we will start these again in a different venue.

This is a taster of the work we run with young people. Please feel free to contact us for more information and details of our groups. We are on social media too:

Babybank: Our Babybank is run from The Well Methodist Church and is also expanding to other areas too. We take donations of good condition baby clothes and equipment and give it to those who need it. We love being able to make a difference to people's lives.
